Bundle up on a cool, quiet November evening to search for owls or beavers, take a guided nature walk and learn how wildlife prepares for winter, or join a class and discuss tips on bird feeding with the experts. Nature awaits in November, get out and join the fun with Audubon!

Wednesday Morning Bird Walks with Audubon
Locations Across Rhode Island
November 2, 9,16, 30, 2022; 9:00 – 11:00 am
Audubon offers small-group Wednesday Morning Bird Walks with naturalist Laura Carberry. Each week a new birding destination will be chosen. Advance registration is required. Location will be sent to registered participants in advance.

Citizens Free Family Fun Day

Thanks to Citizens, the Audubon Nature Center and Aquarium is open free to the public on the first Saturday of every month. Join Audubon for nature stories, animal discoveries, hikes, and more. No need to register!

Bird Illustration for Kids

Young artists learn a fun, quick way to create a colorful painting of their own using a simple drawing and one brush watercolor technique. Students will use a 'sketch & paint' method to illustrate their favorite birds from provided references.

Fairy Houses for Adults

Fairies aren’t just for kids! Use natural materials such as shells, seeds, moss, and stones to create an enchanting home for magical guests. Fairy houses make a unique holiday or winter decoration and are great for a creative outlet. Program includes all materials needed to complete your magical dwelling. Advance registration is required.

Beavers of Fisherville
Audubon Fisherville Brook Wildlife Refuge, Exeter, RI
November 6, 2022; 5:00 – 6:30 pm
Join Audubon for an evening walk and discussion regarding the beavers that have taken up residence in the Fisherville Pond. We will take a look at beaver dams, lodges and hopefully the beaver themselves. At dusk, these creatures become active, so we may get to see these engineers at work. Wear sturdy shoes and bring a flashlight.

Turkey Tale

Each year as Thanksgiving approaches, there is a lot of focus on turkeys. Come listen to a turkey story, "Who's Dancing in My Backyard" read by author and Audubon naturalist Kim Calcagno, make a turkey craft, and examine the wings and feathers of wild turkeys. Discover how turkeys dance and gobble and spar. Spend the afternoon learning about this fascinating bird!

Birdfeeding 101: Starting a Feeding Station

If you are fascinated by your feathered backyard visitors and want to learn how to get started feeding the birds, this is the class for you. Discuss types of feeders, seed and feeder placement as well as some tips and tricks for attracting the critters you want and deterring the ones you don't. Other factors for attracting birds to your yard such as water and landscape plantings will also be discussed.

Climate Reality Presentation

Join Audubon naturalist Kim Calcagno for a presentation about the state of climate change and both the troubling and promising trends being seen. As a certified member of Al Gore's Climate Reality Leadership Corp., Kim will take you through the latest data as well as what you can do and what the nations and economies of the world are doing to combat climate crisis. Free admission but preregistration required.

Visit Powder Mill Ledges to search for owls! An Audubon naturalist will call for different species as you walk through the forest. While we never know if we'll hear or see an owl, participants will learn a lot and have a great night hike. Please dress for the weather, wear sturdy walking shoes, and bring a flashlight. Hike will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather. Advance registration is required.

Explore Prudence Island

Get a jump start on burning off those Thanksgiving calories by joining a day-long adventure on Prudence Island! Take several short walks, look for harbor seals hauled out on the rocks, search for returning sea ducks, and visit many of the Reserve's properties.

Muskrat, Otters and Ale

Start the evening with a craft beer as you learn about the muskrat and otter that live at Caratunk. After the brief presentation, head out to Muskrat Pond to observe the wildlife that come out at dusk. Please bring a flashlight. Meet at the white barn.
