HopeHealth Community VNA to hold free spring dental clinic for seniors

Posted

Attleboro, Mass. — Appointments are now available for Massachusetts residents aged 60 and over to receive a free dental screening at the spring 2022 HopeHealth Community VNA Elder Dental Clinic.

The clinic will take place on Saturday, May 14, from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at HopeHealth Community VNA, 10 Emory St., Attleboro.

Appointments are limited and will provide seniors the opportunity to consult with a volunteer dentist who can diagnose problems with teeth and gums and screen for oral cancer. Information will also be available on how to sign up for the HopeHealth Community VNA Elder Dental Program, which connects income-eligible seniors to local dental services at reduced fees based on a sliding scale.

The deadline to register for an appointment is May 11. All seniors who register must arrive at the clinic wearing a mask and provide proof of vaccination. To schedule an appointment for a free dental screening, please call (774) 203-1326.

The average older adult takes four or more prescription drugs a day. Many of these medications can cause dry mouth, which increases the risk of cavities. But many seniors lack dental insurance and do not receive routine dental care. Studies have shown that lack of oral health care can lead to increased risk of serious health problems, including diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. The mission of the HopeHealth Community VNA Elder Dental Program is to increase access to oral health services for Massachusetts older adults.

Funding is provided in part by Bristol Elder Services, Inc., through contracts with the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs, and the United Way of Massachusetts Bay & Merrimack Valley. Additional funding is provided by: Bristol County Savings Bank Charitable Foundation, Inc.; Oral Health Foundation – Pierre Fauchard Academy; Rotary Club of Attleboro; Dedham Savings; Walpole Co-Operative Bank; Delta Dental of Massachusetts; and HarborOne Bank.
