Old Bridgewater Historical Society Cemetery Tour Planned

Posted

West Bridgewater, MA ---

The Old Bridgewater Historical Society announces its first docent-led tour of a local cemetery. Rev. Diane Badger, a board member of OBHS and an experienced amateur genealogist, will conduct the tour. It will take place in the Old Graveyard in West Bridgewater on Sunday, May 22.

Cemetery tours are a great way to learn about local history and the early settlers of a community. Rev. James Keith, first pastor of Bridgewater, and his wife Susanna Edson Keith are both buried in the Old Graveyard. Samuel Edson, who erected the first mill in town, is also buried there. Participants will learn about these three and several others as we explore the cemetery.

The Old Graveyard was founded in 1683 and is owned by the town of West Bridgewater. It is located on South Street, near the intersection of Cross Street.

The tour begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 22nd. The cost is $5/ per person. No registration required.

Please wear comfortable shoes and bring raingear if the weather is questionable.
