Such a Busy Summer for Troop 13 Rehoboth!

Troop 13 has not stopped at all this summer. Last year we missed out on the fun of summer camp, so this year we made up for lost time with two trips. In July our Troop left New England to go down south to North Carolina in the Great Smoky Mountains to participate in a program called High Adventure. High Adventure is for those older scouts looking for a little more fun and adventure in a week of camp. Camp Daniel Boone in Canton, NC offered “Zip ‘N Splash High Adventure program spending 2 days in the air ziplining and 3 days rafting down rivers. For the first 2 days, the troop stayed at the Nantahala Outdoor Center, or the NOC, and spent the aerial time on the COPE course, an alpine tower, and a 2.5-hour zipline tour with breathtaking views of the Great Smoky Mountains. On the third day, we took an 8-mile trip down the Nantahala River in 8 person rafts. On Day 4, it was time to leave the NOC to go to another river in Tennessee. However, COVID always has different plans and canceled the rest of the planned trek. Back at Camp Daniel Boone there were a few cases of COVID reported, resulting in the Camp closing, and requiring the Daniel Boone Staff and other Scouts that were on the trek to go home with their troops. Luckily Troop 13 was isolated from Camp Daniel Boone because we were at the NOC the entire week. Our Troop was able to keep going with our adventure thankfully because the NOC hosted us and kept us going. Day 4 we had a blast as we were able to go down the Nantahala again on smaller 2 person rafts. Day 5 we did a White-Water Kayaking trip with guides from the NOC. We couldn’t have asked for a better week, and we can’t wait to do it again!

Our second week of summer camp was held in August at a more traditional camp with merit badges and fun activities. This year we found a summer camp in Ashford, CT called June Webster Norcross (JWN). The camp was enjoyed by all. Older Scouts were able to do merit badges like welding, shotgun, and even had ATV riding lessons all week. The younger scouts were able to get merit badges like swimming, rifle shooting, and completed a lot of requirements towards their ranks. The week also included a day of Lumberjack games with log throwing, hatchet throwing, chain pulls, and log cutting. Troop 13 has been to many different summer camps and this one was special because the staff at JWN made the difference. Our Troop will definitely be going back next summer.

Troop 13 has had a lot of fun over the summer and the fun will continue with the Scouting year starting again after Labor Day. We meet every Tuesday night from 7pm - 8:30pm and camp one weekend a month.
