Avis Mello

Avis Mello, a compassionate, generous, loving, and supportive soul, passed away at the age of 97 on Saturday, May 20, 2023.

Born in Norton, Massachusetts on August 22, 1925, Avis was a pillar of strength and warmth to all who knew her. Throughout her life, she resided in Seekonk, Massachusetts, dedicating 59 years to her community and loved ones. As a homemaker, Avis brought joy and comfort to her family, and her dedication extended beyond the home when she worked at Central Ave Veterinary Clinic in Seekonk, MA. She was also a crossing guard for the Mildred Aiken Elementary School.

In her free time, Avis enjoyed reading, piecing together jigsaw puzzles, bird watching, and participating in the Seekonk Lioness Club. Above all else, Avis cherished her family and friends, always making it clear that they were her top priority.

Avis is survived by her children Ava (Joseph) Carr, Michael Mello, Cynthia Sheehan, and Maureen Mello; her son-in-law Joseph (Ava); her grandchildren Kevin Sheehan and Jillian Sheehan; and her brother Lorne Brasier (Marge); she is also survived by her caregiver, Cheryl Viveiros.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Mello; her parents Delo and Gertrude Brasier; her siblings Naomi Bora, Corinne Spencer, Leona Kane, Evelyn Lucas, Marion Schneider, Ramona Nixon, Gertrude Brasier, Lorraine Johnson, Kenneth Brasier, Frederick Brasier, and Melvin Brasier.

A memorial visitation will be held from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro, Massachusetts.
