James W. Urquhart

James W. Urquhart (83) of Seekonk, MA, passed away after a brief illness on May 6, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the husband of Audrey (Malatt) Urquhart to whom he was married for 62 years.

Born in Providence, RI in 1939, he was the son of the late James and Mary (Sweeney) Urquhart.

James attended Classical High School. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from Providence College and a Master’s degree from Rhode Island College in education. After graduating, James taught math to both middle school and high school students in Barrington, RI. As a teacher he impacted many lives and enjoyed receiving letters from former students touting their accomplishments and expressing their gratitude for his support.

Jim was an avid fan of Providence College and all Boston Sport teams, especially the Red Sox. When his children were young, he volunteered his time for Seekonk Youth Hockey, Little League and Seekonk High School Football.

Jim enjoyed traveling, bargain shopping and spending time with family and friends. Jim was a member of the Breakfast Buddies club which wrote reviews of over 350 restaurants and received much press coverage. Jim was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. He had several published editorials in the Providence Journal and Wall Street Journal. Jim was very proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Besides his wife he leaves one daughter, Christine Pickett and her husband Kevin of North Dighton, two sons, Timothy Urquhart and his wife Fiona of Illinois and Todd Urquhart and his wife Karen of Georgia, eight grandchildren, Austin Mann, Cory Mann, Quinn, Fallon, Meaghan, Averi, Tatum and Briggs Urquhart, one sister, Paula Finkleman and two nieces, Jamie Ghaffar and Jodi Shortal. He was the uncle of the late Jonathan Thibault. He will be forever remembered by all of his family and friends

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at 9:00 AM from the PERRY-MCSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Taunton Avenue, Seekonk. Burial will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours Tuesday, 5-7. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Jim’s memory to the Tomorrow Fund, 593 Eddy Street, Providence, RI 02903.
