Seekonk — Superintendent Rich Drolet and Principal Jennifer McKay are pleased to announce that Leslie Kneipfer has been hired as George R. Martin Elementary School’s newest technology teacher.

Kneipfer began her new role at George R. Martin Elementary School as a technology teacher on Feb. 28. In this role, Kneipfer will blend science, engineering and technology into her daily lessons while posing real-life problems to her students, which will make their learning more authentic and engaging.

“We are so thrilled to have Leslie aboard as our newest technology teacher at the Martin Elementary School as she will bring a real-life understanding of the topics into our classrooms,” said Superintendent Drolet. “Her knowledge and prior work experience in the STEM field will be a huge asset to our district and supplement our students' learning greatly. I ask that you all join me in warmly welcoming her into our district."

Kneipfer has over 20 years of experience in education working to fit the individual needs of students into classroom curricula. She recently worked as a STEM teacher for grades K-5 at a Fall River Elementary School, and was a member of the Evaluating Curricular Materials in Science Network in which she researched and chose a new science curriculum for the students of Fall River Public Schools.

She has had several career accomplishments including winning the Civil Air Patrol Aerospace Education Teacher of the Year 2021 Award, Frank G. Brewer Memorial Aerospace Award, and the Air Force Association Aerospace Education Teacher of the Year Award. Kneipfer was also nominated for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching this year.

In addition to her career in education, she also serves as a Captain in Civil Air Patrol where she is the Master Aerospace Education Educator and External Aerospace Education Officer for the Massachusetts Wing. Kneipfer also served on the NASA eClips Educator Advisory Board, using her experience in education to give recommendations on the NASA eClips curriculum to create engaging field-tested and real-world STEM resources to meet the needs of students and educators.

Kneipfer received a master's degree in elementary education from the University of Massachusetts Boston, and a bachelor’s degree in mass media from UMass Amherst. She also holds a certificate in STEM from Bridgewater State University, a certificate in general science from UMass Boston, and is expected to earn a certificate in engineering education from Tufts University this year.

“Leslie’s ability to connect with students along with her experience in education makes her a perfect fit for this position,” said Principal McKay. “I am confident that she will use her knowledge from these varied experiences to positively impact students and the Seekonk school community."
