Meet the Seekonk School Committee Candidates

Posted

Three of the four candidates for two open seats on the Seekonk School Committee met for a forum which will be televised on TV9. Andrea Rosseter, Meaghan Mahoney, and Kyle Juckett answered questions submitted by local media. The fourth candidate, Emily Field, declined to participate. The moderator was Michael Dressler.

The subjects focused on transparency about the school budget, curriculum, and educational priorities.

“Local control is the best way to establish the best curriculum for our children,” said Juckett. “Covid-19 has had a huge impact on our children’s education over the past two years as well as their social growth. It’s imperative that we make sure our teachers have the assets that they need to deliver the best education to our (children).”

“There’s been a lot of loss of learning in the last two years because of Covid. I just want to make sure the staff all feel supported, and the Superintendent is able to do his job effectively all the while listening to the concerns of the public and the parents in our community,” Mahoney said.

“It’s a mode of interrogation,” Rosseter said of the controversial “critical race theory” being taught in schools. “It is absolutely socialist. I absolutely would not want to see that in our schools.”

The forum will be aired throughout the month on TV9. The annual town election will be held on April 4.
