News & Notes from the Blanding Library

Posted

Library Temporarily Closed
Goff Hall, including the Blanding Library, is temporarily closed to visitors due to high positivity rates for COVID-19 in our area. In order to protect the health and safety of our community and reduce transmission of COVID-19, please pick up books and other library materials curbside. We also ask that you continue to return items directly into the book drop instead of to staff members.

Meeting space in both the library and Goff Hall remains unavailable at this time. Our ongoing book sale in the hall will have to be put on hold for now as well. At this time, items requested from other libraries will still be delivered. You will receive notification of their arrival, as usual, and you can call the library to arrange for pick-up.

“Take & Make” for Children
The children’s library is still offering “Take and Make” crafts but you will need to pick up the materials outside the library. Just call ahead (508-252-4236) and the staff will have your items ready for pick up. The library is unable to hold its annual “make your own gingerbread house” holiday activity this year, but if you would like to make one at home, call the library and arrange to pick up a pre-made cardboard house (one per family), along with a recipe for frosting. You can decorate it with your own sweets at home.

Also there will be a new “Take and Make” craft for children revolving around the story of The Gingerbread Man.  This cute and simple craft kit may be picked up at the library, complete with supplies to create a paper envelope house for your storybook characters.

Online Programs for Kids
Miss Joyce continues to produce her new adventures for children on video. Families are invited to view videos through links on our website's Event Calendar or on the Blanding Public Library Youth Service Facebook page.  So many other libraries are sharing their special events with us on Facebook, as well.

Coming up in December will be The Storytime Quintet’s “Peter and the Wolf”: "The Storytime Quintet is excited to present their newest Virtual Music and Arts Unit, ‘Peter and the Wolf!’ Created for students Pre-K through 8th grade, the unit includes 3 videos, a slideshow, and 12 cross-curricular activities designed for use in remote, hybrid, or in-person learning. And best of all, you get unlimited access forever to all of the materials.”

The Blanding plans to show this arts program for four weeks in December. The Storybook Quintet is a group of local women musicians who have performed with many orchestras nationwide. This program and the “Take and Make” crafts are sponsored by the Friends of the Blanding Library.

Holiday donations: Anyone planning to bring a gift as part of the holiday giving program can still drop off their donations to the staff at the library. Please call first to arrange for curbside pickup.

For more information on library hours, curbside pickup or any other questions, you can visit our Facebook page or www.blandinglibrary.net for information or phone 508-252-4236. Thanks for your patience and cooperation at this difficult time.
