Arthur “Rory” Willis, III

Posted

Arthur “Rory” Willis, III, 80, of East Providence, gently left us for heaven surrounded by his adoring family on the morning of July 15,2023. He was the beloved husband of Sara F. Willis to whom he was married 60 years.

Born in Boston, MA he was the son of the late Arthur Willis, Jr., and Judith Drew (Miller) Willis. His greatest joy in life was his family and sharing his passion for sailing. In the summer, he could be found with Sara, on his boat the New Song, wind in his hair, hat on his head, wearing a big smile on his face. Every one of his grandchildren have warm memories of sailing Narragansett Bay with their Grandaddy. Rory was a sterling example of generosity and was always there to help, guide, and support. He loved educating, sharing the word of God and teaching his grandchildren new, obscure words. He loved God and his family infinitely. He was deeply loved by all who knew him. The kindness and unrelenting support he showed has shaped those who survive him for the better and for always. We strive to emulate him as we move forward. He was an incredible person.

Rory was educated at Milton Academy, Boston University and later at Zion Bible institute. He earned a bachelor’s degree in communications. Rory enjoyed a long and entertaining career in the insurance industry for 43 years until he retired. His eloquence served him well throughout his career.

Besides his adoring wife he leaves four children, Rory S. Willis and his wife Sally of Salem, VA, J. Kristin Morrissette of Barrington, RI, Samuel C. Willis and his wife Kendra of Riverside, RI, Peter L. Willis, MD and his wife Lisa of Charlestown, RI, 14 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and his sister, Judith Sheeks of Boulder, CO.

A celebration of life and calling hours will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023 from 11 A.M.-12 P.M. with a service to follow at 12 P.M. in the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence, RI. Burial will be private.
