Bruce P. Seguin

Posted

It is with great sadness and tremendous heartbreak that we share the news that Bruce P. Seguin, 64 of Riverside, RI passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 2, 2023. Bruce was a father, son, husband, brother, grandfather, uncle, cousin, coworker, and friend to so many people that loved him. He was the beloved husband of Kelley M. (Beaudry) Seguin and devoted father to his three children, Scott Seguin, Jennifer Tanner, and Matthew Seguin.

Bruce was born on September 1, 1959, in New Bedford, MA. He was the first child and oldest son of Sumner “Bob” and Irene (Dupont) Seguin. He would later become the older brother and role model to three additional siblings, a sister and two brothers. Bruce lived and grew up in Fairhaven, graduating from Fairhaven High School in 1977. After school, he worked with his dad for many years learning the plumbing and heating trade. He got married and started a family before moving to Barrington, RI in the early 1990s where he worked and raised his family. He remained in RI for the remaining years of his life.

Bruce worked for National Grid for 33 years until he retired in September 2019. Bruce started his career at Providence Gas on April 21, 1986, and over those years, he worked as a laborer, pipe fitter, crew leader, welder, inspector, line walker and working leader for the Construction Ops department until he retired. His coworkers would commonly refer to him as “Bruce Almighty”. Bruce was also involved with the Local 12432 Steel Workers Union where he held the positions of Steward, Vice President, and President from 2002 through 2019. After retiring, Bruce took a position as a training consultant for National Grid.

Bruce is survived by his wife Kelley and his parents, Sumner “Bob” and Irene Seguin of Fairhaven along with his son, Scott A. Seguin of Springfield, MO, his daughter, Jennifer S. Tanner and her husband David of Coventry, RI, five grandchildren, Christopher Trudell, Hailey Trudell, Scott Seguin, Ryder Tanner, and Racer Tanner, one sister, Sandra Wilder and her husband George of Fairhaven, MA, one brother, Russell Seguin and his wife Lisa of Conway, NH, and the brother of the late Gary Seguin along with many nieces and nephews.

Bruce was also the devoted and committed father of the late Matthew T. Seguin, his youngest child, who he lovingly refers to as “his angel.” Heaven gained this new angel when Matthew sadly passed in January 2016 after battling 23 years of illness. Bruce was a one in a million father, a super-hero dad and an inspiration to anyone who knew him in the way he cared for, loved, and advocated for his son all those difficult years. Along with Matthew’s mother, Tracey (Barton) Seguin, they were his blanket of comfort and support.

Bruce was a good man, a good person. A simple, humble, honest, and dedicated person. He was big hearted, loyal, respectful, and unselfish. He was a devoted family man and deeply cared for his family and friends. He is loved by so many and he loved back never failing to tell people he loved them every day.

He enjoyed taking his grandchildren on trips to Disney and traveling with his wife Kelley, especially going on cruises but nothing compared to his love of camping.

His happy place was always at a campground. From when his children were young at Riverbend Campground and recently at Hidden Acres Campground where he was referred to as the “Mayor of Hidden Acres Campground.” Bruce enjoyed the simplicity of camping life and the community of friends he made over the years. He treasured the relationships created with his “camp family,” past and present. He enjoyed playing games with family and friends. Cards, cribbage, dice, dominoes, corn hole, bocce, it did not matter as long as everyone was having fun.

Bruce also had a passion for cooking. He would watch the Food Network for hours and then find a recipe he wanted to try out and of course, he needed all the fancy gadgets to prepare it. The final product was always delicious. His Thanksgiving stuffing and Tuscan soup were fan favorites. He loved movies, many of which he could recite verbatim.

He was known as Uncle Bruce to so many kids. He had a special place in his heart for all children and his face would light up whenever he was around them. He also loved animals and supported many local organizations. He helped care for countless foster pets and most recently had an amazingly special bond with his dog Bentley who crossed over a few months ago and was deeply missed.

Bruce was also a member of the Bouffard Council Knights of Columbus #2965 in North Providence where he was a third-degree knight.

His calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, from 5-7 P.M. in the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence, RI. Burial will be private in Riverside Cemetery, Fairhaven. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Bruce and Matthew to Boston Children’s Hospital Trust, 401 Park Drive, Suite 602, Boston, MA 02215. Boston Children’s Hospital holds a special place in Bruce’s heart for the compassionate care they provided to his son, Matthew.
