Helen Joy (Irons) Millard, departed this earth on Monday, February 5, 2024 at the age of 98 years old. She was the wife of the late Theodore R Millard to whom she was married 57 years.

Born in Providence, the daughter of the late Irving W. & Helen J. (Myers) Irons. She lived in Rhode Island all of her life having resided in Providence, Smithfield, and East Providence.

Joy was a 1942 graduate of Hope High School in Providence. She had been employed as a Textile Mender in the Wanskuck Mills, as an insurance clerk for Pieper & Wilder, GL & HJ Gross, as a Brokerage Placer for New Providence Insurance Corporation, finally retiring from the position of Personnel/Payroll Services Manager with Allendale Insurance Company, a predecessor company of FM Global. She was a 23-year member of the Roger William Baptist Church in Providence, a 58-year member of Hope Congregational UCC in East Providence before becoming a member of Seekonk Congregational Church UCC in 2016. Joy was a member of the RI Mayflower Society and the Pawtucket Chapter of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution. In her senior years, she lived in comfort and dignity at Winslow Gardens, a facility of the Aldenbridge Communities in East Providence where she devoted many volunteer hours in productive support of their activities and purpose.

She is survived by her beloved sister-in-love Carol W. Irons of Annandale VA, and her three sons, Theodore “TR” and his wife Elaine Millard of Norton MA, Stephen Millard and his wife Jarrett of Charlottesville VA and Paul D. Millard and his wife Joann of Knightdale, NC, five grandchildren, Christian E. Millard of Charlottesville, VA, grandmother of the late Marisa C. Millard, Scott F. Millard and his wife Denise of Hopkinton MA, Katherine J. Toole of Norton MA, David M. Millard, and his wife Megan of Durham NC, six great-grandchildren, Emma K. Toole, Nicholas M. Toole both of Norton MA, Taylor C. Millard, Ryan S. Millard of both of Hopkinton MA, Christian A. Millard, and Courtney A. Millard both of Charlottesville VA. She was the sister of the late, Irving W. Irons, Jr., Raymond H. Irons, Bertrand A. Irons, Milton E. Irons, and sister Mildred F. Millard.

Her Funeral will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. in the Seekonk Congregational UCC church, 600 Fall River Avenue, Seekonk MA. A private burial to immediately follow in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston RI. Calling Hours will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024 from 5-7 P.M. in the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence, RI.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joy's memory to the Development Department of the Aldenbridge Communities, 40 Irving Ave, East Providence RI.
