John F. Conley, 86, of Riverside, Chairman Emeritus of the East Providence Democratic City Committee died peacefully on October 20, 2023.

Born in Providence, he lived in East Providence for 64 years.

Mr. Conley was a Pressman for the Providence Gravure Company for 25 years and the Past President of the Printing Pressman of RI Union Local #12.

John was elected to the East Providence City Council in 1966 and served two terms until 1970 and was instrumental in implementing the East Providence Municipal Court. He was a 32 year member and Past Chairman of the East Providence Democratic City Committee who honored his service with voting him Chairman Emeritus in 2022.

Mr. Conley served as the Coordinator of the East Providence Election Committee of United States Representative Patrick J. Kennedy. He also served on the 1986 RI House of Representatives Endorsement Committee.

John was the founder of The Riverside Voters for Good Government Committee and remained active in local and state politics for over 46 years.

Mr. Conley was a communicant of St. Brendan Church where he was the coach of the 1966 CYO Basketball State Championship Team. He also was the founder of the former St. Brendan Summer Festival.

John was a Third Degree Member of the Riverside Bishop Hickey Knights of Columbus where he was Past President of The Columbus Club. He was a former manager and member of the Board of Directors for the Riverside Baseball Senior Little League. He was a former Chairman of the East Providence Carousel Commission.

Mr. Conley was a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps serving from 1956-1960.

He is survived by his cousins and many devoted friends.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday October 25, 2023 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 9:15 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brendan Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
