Louis J. Procaccini, 76, of East Providence, a respected professor and cherished family member, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2023, in East Providence, Rhode Island. Born in Providence on August 26, 1947, Louis was the beloved son of the late Luigi and Stella (Phillips) Procaccini.

Growing up in a close-knit family, Louis was the admired brother of Helen L. Ferreira of Seekonk, Carol B. Pacheco of Seekonk, and Judy A. Beaulieu of Sandwich, MA. He was also a treasured uncle to Joseph Ferreira, Susan Moran, Mark Pacheco, Christine Miles, and Sharon Fadika. His family will remember him as a beacon of wisdom, humor, and kindness, always ready with a friendly word or a helping hand.

Louis's passion for knowledge led him to earn his Doctorate degree and become a professor. His dedication to his profession was evident in his long and distinguished career at Roger Williams University, where he served for over 39 years. As a criminology professor, he was respected by his colleagues and beloved by his students. His classes were a blend of intellectual rigor and engaging discourse, highlighting his intelligence, friendliness, and humor.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Louis was deeply involved in his church's activities. He sang in the church choir, bringing joy and harmony to the congregation with his melodious voice. As a Eucharistic Minister, he served his community with deep reverence and devotion. His faith was an integral part of his life, providing him with strength and guiding his actions.

Louis also had a zest for life and a love for traveling. He found immense joy in exploring new places, meeting new people, and immersing himself in different cultures. His numerous cruises took him to various parts of the world, each journey enriching his life experiences and broadening his perspectives.

Louis J. Procaccini was a man of many roles – a devoted brother, a loving uncle, a revered professor, and a faithful servant of the church. His life was a testament to his intelligence, friendliness, and humor. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy will live on in the many lives he touched, the students he inspired, and the family members he loved.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at 8:30 am from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Francis Xavier Church, 81 North Carpenter Street, East Providence.

Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours are Monday October 23, 2023, from 5:00pm – 8:00pm at the funeral home.
