East Providence, RI – September 28, 2023 – The Narragansett Bay Symphony Community Orchestra (NaBSco), renowned for its commitment to presenting both timeless classics and contemporary masterpieces, invites audiences to its season opener, "Resonance & Revolution," on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 7:30 pm at the East Providence High School auditorium. The program will be performed under the inspired direction of Music Director Kristo Kondakçi.

The concert begins with Johann Sebastian Bach's Fantasy and Fugue, a masterpiece of baroque intricacy, reimagined through the profound orchestration of Edward Elgar—this piece resonates with timeless beauty, echoing the innovation and revolutionary spirit of two composers who dared to challenge traditional boundaries.

Following the Bach/Elgar work, NaBSCO showcases the deeply moving Sheltering Voices, composed in 2018 by Stephanie Ann Boyd. The five stages of recovery from sexual assault and domestic violence are captured in the lyrics sung by the captivating voice of soprano Krista Wilhelmsen and the rich harmonies of Coro Amante, under the music direction of the esteemed Rhode Island maestro, Dr. Joseph J. Amante y Zapata.

Concluding our musical voyage is the groundbreaking Symphony in E Minor, Op. 32 “Gaelic”, by the trailblazing American composer Amy Cheney Beach. Inspired by the rich tapestry of Antonin Dvorak’s Bohemian folk melodies interwoven with American themes, Beach’s symphony is a revolutionary melding of English, Scottish, and Irish tunes with American genres. Not only was the "Gaelic Symphony" a pioneering effort in fusing folk elements, but it also proudly stands as the first symphony both composed and published by an American woman.
