William J. Sweeney
William J. Sweeney, 80, of East Providence, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Carrier) Sweeney.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Francis and Svea (Anderson) Sweeney. Mr. Sweeney worked for Nordson EFD in East Providence for 14 years before he retired in 2009. Prior to that, he worked for Herff Jones. He was an avid fan of the P.C. Friars, played on several bowling leagues and also enjoyed WWE Wrestling. Bill and Barbara traveled to Las Vegas annually and always enjoyed visiting the different casinos. Above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Besides his wife he leaves three children, Donna Scanlon and her husband Joseph, Scott Goss, and William J. Sweeney, Jr. and his wife Sydney, three sisters, Barbara Starkweather, Jane Roy, and Carol Knox and her husband Sean, nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Terrie Johnson and brother of the late John, Robert, and Francis Sweeney.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 9:00 AM from the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Loreto Church, 346 Waterman Avenue, East Providence. Burial will be in Rumford Cemetery. Calling hours Wednesday 4-7.
