EP National Community Development Week - April 6-11

Posted

The City of East Providence is celebrating the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program by recognizing National Community Development Week, April 6-11. This week-long celebration brings together citizens, government officials, businesses, media, and non-profit organizations through events to showcase the impact of CDBG in our community.

The CDBG program provides grants to over 1,200 local governments to devise neighborhood approaches that improve the physical, economic and social conditions in communities. Every $1.00 of CDBG leverages another $4.07 in other funding; bringing additional vital resources to communities.

Like many federal programs, CDBG has seen $990 billion in funding reductions since 2010. The program is needed more than ever to help our most vulnerable citizens and improve the overall condition of our neighborhoods.

To showcase the vital importance CDBG funds have for the city of East Providence we invite everyone to the following events:

  • Job Training Program Wednesday, April 1st at 11 am, Senator Jack Reed at Tockwotton on the Waterfront, 500 Waterfront Drive.
  • Digital Literacy Program Monday, April 6th at 11 am, Representative David Cicilline at Weaver Library, 41 Grove Avenue.
  • Foster Grandparents Volunteers Tuesday, April 7th at 1:30 pm Senator Sheldon Whitehouse at the Senior Center, 610 Waterman Avenue
