Saturday, October 9th at 10am: Located in Smithfield RI, Connors Farm is a 2.9 mile loop trail that passes by cranberry bogs, small brooks and ponds and features a picnic area at the top of a look-out spot. A variety of local wildlife including turtles, deer, frog, rabbits, foxes, hawks, and many other species of birds call this area home and can be spotted by observant hikers. Some steep inclines and rocky terrain give this, approximately two-hour, hike a moderate level of difficulty.
Sunday, October 10th at 11:30am: A relaxing Fall paddle on the Woonasquatucket River through Downtown Providence. Check out this beautiful stretch of hidden wilderness within the capital city. This trip begins at the boat launch on South Water St. and travels to Eagle Square. Along this route there are opportunities to observe diverse wildlife including Herons, Ducks, Cormorants, American Eels, Box Turtles and several species of fish. The trip will also pass by a number of historic sites which range in scope from the colonial to modern periods of Providence’s history. Use your own boat or rent one for the trip from the WRWC. Advanced sign-up is required for all trips.
This series is generously funded by the Cricket Foundation and generous donor support. Visit www.WRWC.ORG/EVENTS to register for these hikes and to see the full “Explore the Woonasquatucket” recreational series schedule.
