12 News Announces Fall TV Debates For 2022 General Election

Providence, R.I.: Oct. 3, 2022 – As Southern New Englanders prepare to cast their ballots in the November election, 12 News is announcing plans to continue its series of 2022 televised debates this fall.

“12 News is Southern New England’s leader for debates that help local voters make informed decisions,” says Patrick Wholey, Vice President and General Manager of WPRI 12, FOX Providence, myRITV, and the CW Providence.

“We know viewers depend on us to ensure they have the information they need when they go to the polls,” says Karen Rezendes, News Director of 12 News. “We received an overwhelmingly positive response to the five televised debates we aired in the leadup to this month’s primary election, and we are excited to continue that effort this fall.”

The debates will kick off when candidates for Rhode Island governor will meet for their first debate live on Oct. 11, followed by 2nd Congressional District candidates live on Oct. 18. The debates will continue from there on special editions of Newsmakers, 12 News’ long-running weekend politics show, with the candidates for Bristol County sheriff and Rhode Island general treasurer. All the debates will be moderated by Target 12 Chief Investigative Reporter Tim White and 12 News Politics Editor Ted Nesi and will be available for streaming on WPRI.com.
