Phyllis “Phyl” M. Poissant, 82, of Rehoboth passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. She was the beloved wife of Donald R. Poissant to whom she was married for 61 years.

Born in Central Falls, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late John and Emma (Palagi) Farley. Mrs. Poissant grew up in Pawtucket, graduated from Toleman High School Class of 1959, and attended the Katherine Gibbs School in 1960. She later moved to Rumford where she lived there for 16 years then moved to Rehoboth where she made her home with her husband since 1982. She worked as a secretary for the emergency physicians at Miriam Hospital until she retired. Mrs. Poissant lived most of her life with type 1 diabetes and was awarded the “50+ Courageous Years Medal” from the Joslin Clinic in Boston, MA. She enjoyed working in her yard and spending time with her family and friends.


Besides her husband Donald, she leaves two daughters, Darlene Simmons of East Providence, and Kathleen Poissant of Johnston, two granddaughters, Jennifer Volpe of N. Kingstown, Shannon M. Simmons of East Providence, two great-granddaughters, Raena J. Volpe, and Karina J. Volpe, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Cynthia Poissant, the sister of the late John F. Farley, Kenneth R. Farley, and Leo E. Farley.


Her Funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at 9:00 A.M. from the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 984 Taunton Avenue, Seekonk, MA. Burial will be in Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery, Pawtucket, RI. Calling Hours will be held on Monday from 5-7 P.M.
