"ROLL TOWNIES"

After graduating 6 starting seniors the Townies are struggling this season in looking for their first win. EP plays Chariho today, Thursday, in a 4:30 pm league game at home. The Townies have just 2 seniors on the team, 6 juniors, 4 sophomores and 6 freshmen. “Yes, this year is going to look much different for East Providence Softball, after graduating 6 key starters from last season,” said Head Coach Katie Solitro. “We have some new faces looking to make waves in a tough D1 division lineup. What some would consider to be a rebuilding year, I would consider to be reloading. We have a bunch of returning and new talented players able to fill a variety of key spots this season, and personally I feel their potential could help lead up to a very successful season. Many have put the work in during the off season, and it shows,” added Solitro.

The 0-5 Townies are still working with “… a very good problem to have. We have many strong bats to choose from and are currently trying to figure out what is the best combination to produce runs. This motivated group of girls are developing a team chemistry that I feel will eventually surprise a lot of people,” said Solitro.

Coach Solitro summed up the team’s plan:

  • “We are sure of a few things defensively. Emma Boisseau, who played a very solid third base position last year and will take control behind the plate. She was a beast offensively last year, and we are confident she will continue that trend. Junior Brennyn Alves, and Freshman Audrey Bernard may also see some time behind the plate. Pitchers Cassie Dulude, a sophomore, and Freshman, Marianna Pina, will share time on the mound, with Hannah Bone supporting when needed. All three pitchers are young and lack experience at the Varsity level but have worked extremely hard in the off season to prepare themselves for their chance.”
  • “Returning Junior Mackenzie Pimentel will be controlling the left side of the infield and contributing her own success at the plate, while returning Junior Sylvie Patterson is looking to handle second base and cause some chaos with her speed on the bases. Trinity Provencher, who had an amazing freshman season in Center Field, returns hopefully for another powerhouse season both in the field and at the plate.”
  • “Other players who look to have solid potential and playing time in the infield are newcomer Shelby Quinn, a talented middle infielder and fierce competitor, Senior Natalia Palermo, a savvy second baseman with a great bat, and Senior Mackenzie Jordan, an experienced first basemen who also shows power at the plate. Both seniors played on the team in younger years but did not come out their Junior years.
  • “Returning Junior Brennyn Alves, Freshman Audrey Bernard, and Sophomore Nethania Figueroa will be vying for time in the outfield, while Bernard and Alves may also see some time at first base as well. Figueroa worked all off season in the outfield and is going to be a force to be reckoned with at the plate. Her larger-than-life personality and competitive fire brings our team to a different level every day. Marianna Pina, when not pitching, should also see some playing time both in the infield and outfield, as she seems to fit in any position, we put her in, loves the game, and has a strong bat as well. Hannah Bone will be utilized as a utility player when not pitching, contributing both in the infield and outfield.”

Overall, Townie softball fans are excited for another season of softball with “another great group of kids that are going to give everything they have every single game.” Roll Townies!
