Posted

Gerardo “Jerry” Carnevale, 73 of Wakefield and formerly of East Providence, died Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at home.

He was the partner of Mary Anne McIntyre, for the last 26 years.

Jerry was born in Providence the son of the late John and Camilla (Cantavenera) Carnevale. He was the brother of Rose Marie Ingegneri and her husband Ben of Wakefield and John Carnevale and his wife Donna of East Providence.

Besides his partner, Jerry is survived by her children, Sean (Erin) McIntyre and Shannon (Alec) Ellsworth. He was affectionately known as “Pa” by their five grandchildren, Colin, Cora, Kate, Axel, and Eamon. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Jerry was the Director of Operations for North American Family Institute (NAFI/RI) for over 26 years before retiring in 2018. His passion for caring for children who couldn’t care for themselves was contagious and inspired all those that he mentored. He was respected and admired throughout the entire organization as a courageous leader and a generous man of integrity, driven solely by his love for the children and staff in his care. He built a community in NAFI/RI that continues to provide the love and care that Jerry left behind.

Jerry treasured his time with his step children and grandchildren, devoting himself wholeheartedly to them, always making them laugh, and building a home for them that will continue to sustain them. He loved his New York Yankees and spent his retirement years meticulously caring for his gardens, his final gift to his family.

Jerry gave completely of himself in all his endeavors. He will be sadly missed by all that he touched, but the love and care he gave will continue to provide comfort to families in need in RI through the caretakers he coached.

We pray that he has joined his two dearest friends who pre-deceased him, Daniel DeCrecsenzo, and “Rick” Henry Ferrante.

His funeral will be held Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at 8:00am from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Our Lady of Loreto Church, 346 Waterman Avenue, East Providence. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence, RI.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours are Tuesday MORNING from 8:00am – 10:00am.
