Mary L. Girvan

Mary L. Girvan, 96 of Rumford, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at the Hattie Ide Chaffee Nursing Home. She was the beloved wife of the late James Cushman Girvan. They were married for 56 years. Born in Danielson, Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late Miles H. Decatur and Lillian M. (Vaughn) Decatur.

Mary was a graduate of Edgewood Junior College. She went on to be a secretary for Amica Mutual Insurance Company. Mary was a member of the Church of the Epiphany in Rumford.

Mary devoted her life to her home and her family. She leaves her loving children: Robert D. Girvan, Donald B. Girvan, Susan G. Hindley (Charlie) and Judith G. LaCross (John). Cherished grandmother of Stephen Troy (Kristen), Kristen Segal (Martin), Erin Logue (Ryan), Ashley Driscoll (Kevin) and Allison LaCross (Pablo) and nine adoring great grandchildren. Mary was predeceased by her sister Caroline D. Chick and survived by many nieces and nephews.

Her Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. in the Church of the Epiphany, 1336 Pawtucket Avenue Rumford. Burial will follow in the Rumford Cemetery, Greenwood Avenue, Rumford. Calling hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the Church of the Epiphany.
