Rhode Island Day of Portugal to Raise Portuguese Flag at East Providence City Hall

East Providence, RI – Rhode Island Day of Portugal in collaboration with the City of East Providence will be raising the Portuguese Flag at City Hall to commemorate Day of Portugal. Officially known as Dia de Portugal, de Camoes e das Comunidades Portuguesas, the day of Portugal is a holiday celebrated each year on June 10th. The day commemorates the death of Luis Vaz de Camoes, a poet best known for Os Lusiadas – a poem depicting Portugal’s maritime voyages. The poem, considered one of the finest and most important works in Portuguese literature, became a symbol for the great feats of the Portuguese Empire.
