The Providence Singers Announce the 2021-2022 Season

Posted

The Providence Singers, a 100-voice concert choir led by artistic director Christine Noel, plans to resume in-person rehearsals this September in preparation for a varied and exciting concert season.

November 6 and 7: Brahms, Requiem
The season begins with a beloved and comforting choral masterwork, performed Saturday evening at St. Mary’s Parish in Bristol, RI, followed by a Sunday afternoon concert at the Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral in Providence that will be offered free to the public.

December 12: Handel, Messiah
The Providence Singers will perform our 14th Messiah with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra in a Sunday concert at Veterans Memorial Auditorium. Bramwell Tovey conducting.

March 5: Bach, Magnificat; Schütz Musikalische exequien; Julian Wachner, We Two Alone

Join the Providence Singers at Grace Episcopal Church in downtown Providence for a concert celebrating our 50th anniversary. The concert includes a world premiere of a work by prolific composer and former Providence Singers Artistic Director Julian Wachner, a setting of the Sara Teasdale poem “A November Night.” All three works will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra of Baroque instruments.

April 3: Broadway Favorites

The Providence Singers return to McVinney Auditorium in Providence for a Sunday matinee concert of Broadway choruses and solos.

May 6 and 7: Beethoven, Symphony 9; Brahms, “How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place”

The season finale for both the Providence Singers and the Rhode Island Philharmonic offers two iconic choral works: Beethoven’s choral symphony, commonly known as the “Ode to Joy,” and a familiar movement of Brahm’s Requiem. Also on the program is Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings. Bramwell Tovey conducting.
