Adam M. Alderson Jr., from a class of nearly 500 students, graduated with Honors on June 5, 2026, from Attleboro High School. He also had the additional recognition of being presented the distinguished Helen W. Metcalf Award for Academic Excellence.
Adam is the son of Adam Alderson (formerly of Rehoboth) and Jennifer Alderson. In addition to being an honor student, he has been and is currently employed by Bristol County Savings Bank in the Rehoboth branch. Adam will be attending Bentley University in the fall.
Historically, with regard to this award, Ms. Metcalf was an English teacher and Assistant Principal at Attleboro High School for many years from 1880 to 1898. This award was established in honor of Ms. Metcalf in 1919 by the Perrion Club, a literary and social club which she helped to establish. When first created, the student attaining the highest grade in the subject of English during their four years of high school was presented this award. At the time in 1919, this honor included a $5.00 gold piece.
Later, in memory of his sister, Mr. Louis P. Metcalf established a trust fund to continue and supplement this award. This Award has changed and grown over the years. In addition to this overall Award for Academic Excellence received by Adam, scholarships were also awarded to five additional students in specific academic areas of study as well.”
