Town officials celebrated the grand opening of the Miller Taylor Hall at Francis Farm on Monday. The building houses the wellness and exercise facilities for senior citizens in Rehoboth.
An orientation session will be held for anyone who wants to use the equipment, which includes lifecycles and treadmills.
The design of the building is compliant with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) standards. There’s also a big screen television and a sitting area where people can congregate and enjoy coffee.
Board of Selectman Chair Skip Vadnais said the goal was to “get the community closer together.”
“This is a great opportunity not just for our seniors, but for the whole town,” Vadnais continued. “This is why we developed this campus.”
Francis Farm’s recreational facilities also include a pickleball court, a volleyball field, and a playground.
“It’s been a long time in the making,” said Selectman David Pereira, who oversaw the project. Pereira thanked Elizabeth Doyle, the Director of Health and Human Services, and the town’s Building Maintenance department.
“I hope everyone enjoys what we did here,” Pereira added. “We want to keep expanding on what we’re doing, because it’s a community center at the end of the day.”
