Summer Fun Pass

Posted

Looking for something to do this summer that is affordable and fun? You can start by viewing the museum passes on the East Providence Public Library website, https://eastprovidencelibrary.org/museum-passes.  Thirteen adventures within easy driving distance are available at reduced rates or free, thanks to the Friends of the East Providence Public Library. All you need is a library card to “check out” a pass or coupon. Museum passes can be reserved online for your preferred date. Information on cost and availability are located on the library’s website or inquire next time you are in the library.

This is a great opportunity to visit nearby sites that you haven’t been to before. For history buffs, Battleship Cove in Fall River, MA, is home to naval vessels, aircraft and exhibits on the steamships Titanic and the Fall River Line. Mystic Seaport in CT features more than 500 historic watercraft. New Bedford Whaling Museum presents a glimpse into the history of whaling, showcasing a half-scale model of a whaling ship. Tomaquag Museum in Exeter is dedicated to indigenous history and culture, focusing on the Narragansett Tribe.

A trip to Boston could take you to the Museum of Science, the Museum of Fine Arts or New England Aquarium. Football fans will enjoy Patriots Hall of Fame in Foxboro, next to Gillette Stadium. Newport destinations include the gilded age mansion, The Breakers, and Save the Bay’s Hamilton Family Aquarium. Perennial favorite, Roger Williams Park Zoo and the ever-popular Providence Children’s Museum are in the capital city. And rounding out the selections is Blithewold, an historic Bristol country estate with gardens in bloom, surrounding the 45-room manor house with a view of Narragansett Bay.

The Friends of East Providence Public Library is a non-profit volunteer organization that supports the library through fundraising and advocacy. Community members can join at the library or by sending a check for $10 per person to the Friends at 41 Grove Avenue, East Prov., RI 02914.
