Townie Baseball wins Playoff Game
As reported earlier in The Reporter, EP baseball came from behind to take their playoff game against Lincoln at EPHS. Alex Enright, Max Pawlik, and JJ Renaud combined for five of the team's eight hits in the come from behind victory Tuesday night over Lincoln. East Providence didn't take the lead until late in the game. The Townies were down 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out and a count of 2-2, JJ Renaud lined a hard single to center field. Alex Enright then lined a hard triple to center field with Renaud scoring the game tying run. As Enright reached third base, he then scampered home with the go ahead run on an overthrow from the outfield to third. Pawlik then doubled to left field but after a walk to Aidan Martins the go-ahead rally ended with EP up 2-1. Senior pitcher Lefty Hallene earned the impressive complete game victory.
Girls lacrosse win quarterfinal playoff game
The East Providence Girls Lacrosse Team defeated Ponaganset at Tuesday’s quarterfinal playoff game with a final score of 11-6. As usual the Townies were led by Alyssa Karalekas with 6 goals. Nadiyah Calouro-Vargas had 3 goals and Sydney Olson chipped in 2 goals for the impressive Townie win. East Providence Goalie Wendy Monteiro-Cabral stopped 12 shots on net. The defending 2025 champion Townies, although rebuilding, will take on Toll Gate in a semifinal match, date TBD.
EPHS Boys Volleyball
In qualifying playoff action, the Townies shut out Chariho three games to none, 25-15, 25-18 and 25-15 to move on in state playoffs. The Townies will travel to Hendricken on Thursday May 28th in a quarterfinal match.
EPHS Boys Tennis
The Townie tennis team had an impressive season come to an end as they lost a semifinal match to Prout on Tuesday, 4-1.
Boys Outdoor Track & Field
In action this past Saturday, the boys outdoor track & field team finished 3rd overall at the Rhode Island Class A Championship meet. The following Townies placed during the meet: Jack Pawlik 1st place in both the 100 meter and 200 meter with a state leading time of 21.89 the boys 4x400 meter relay once again broke the school record and placed 1st.with a state leading time of 3:22.92. The team consisted of Julian Monteiro, Julius Cortes, Jack Pawlik, and Justin Jardine, The 4x100 meter relay consisting of Isaac Rodriguez, Justin Jardine, Julius Cortes, and Jack Pawlik placed 3rd. Julian Monteiro placed 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles. Isaac Rodriguez placed 4th in the 300 meter hurdles, 5th in the triple jump and 6th in the 110 meter hurdles. Jalen Jackson placed 5th in the 110 meter hurdles.
