Stephen (Steve) G. Russell, 78, of Seekonk, MA, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, September 25, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Beverly A. (Mahoney) Russell to whom he was married for 55 years. Born in Southbridge, MA, he was the son of the late George and Monica (Giles) Russell.

Steve worked as a teacher and was also department head of Metal Fabrication at Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School in Fall River where he taught for 30 years. He was a lifelong Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. As a young man, Steve was a standout baseball player on his high school team playing an exceptional shortstop. Later as a dad, he coached both his daughters’ softball teams and his son’s little league baseball team in Seekonk for many years, as well as the varsity and junior varsity baseball teams at Diman - always with a sense of humor and the patience of a saint. During the early years of his retirement, he enjoyed traveling, skiing, and sailing with his wife. A favorite summer destination for the two of them was Second Beach Campground in Middletown, RI where they enjoyed long walks on the beach, “boogie boarding”, hosting cookouts at their camper, and delighting in the ocean sunrises and sunsets. Steve also became an accomplished cook over the years and loved to experiment with new recipes for his family and friends. He was an adoring husband, caring father, doting grandfather, and loyal friend who will be dearly missed by all.

Besides his loving wife Beverly, he leaves three children, Kimberley Zeleznik and her husband Robert of Swansea, MA, Mark Russell, and his wife Kate of Fairview Park, OH, Lynn Goodwin and her husband Paul of Colchester, CT, one sister, Monica Brunetta of Oxford, MA and six grandchildren, Emma, Matthew, Michael, Owen, Kelly, and Maya. He was predeceased by his brother, Elliott Russell.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 10 AM at St. James Lutheran Church, 49 Middle Hwy, Barrington, RI with a burial to follow at the Church of the Holy Cross Cemetery, Dexter Street, Seekonk. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-7 PM at the Perry-McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Ave., East Providence, RI. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either Seekonk Animal Shelter, 100 Peck Street, Seekonk, MA 02771, or St. James Lutheran Church, Barrington, RI 02806.
