Charles Arthur Calverley, Jr., 88, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026.

A native of Block Island, Rhode Island, Charles lived a life defined by devotion to family, community, learning, and service. For 62 years, he made his home in Seekonk, Massachusetts, where he and his beloved wife, Sandra, built a life together and raised their family.

Charles earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Business from Bryant University. He enjoyed a successful career in banking and finance, culminating in a long tenure with Van Liew Trust Company. He was respected for his expertise, sound judgment, and unwavering commitment to the clients he proudly served.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Sandra (Noyes) Calverley, who passed away in 2022. He is survived by his sons, Charles A. (Chip) Calverley III and wife Carol of Seekonk, James W. (Jim) Calverley II and wife Laura of Seekonk, and by his cherished grandchildren, Kathryn Mary (Katie) Calverley and James W. (Will) Calverley III.

A lifelong member of the Anglican Church in Rhode Island, Charles worshipped for most of his life at St. Stephen's Church in Providence. He was also a lifelong Freemason whose dedication to the craft spanned well over 60 years. This commitment culminated in 1983, when he was elevated to Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Rhode Island, the highest office in Rhode Island Masonry.

Outside of his professional and civic commitments, Charles cultivated a wide range of interests and passions. An avid gardener, he found great satisfaction in creating and tending to the beautiful gardens surrounding his Seekonk home. He was a knowledgeable collector and student of single malt Scotch Whisky, possessing a deep appreciation for its history, regional traditions, and craftsmanship. His enthusiasm and expertise made him a valued source of knowledge among friends and fellow enthusiasts alike.

Charles and Sandra shared a profound love of travel to the United Kingdom. Together they enjoyed many memorable journeys, immersing themselves in local culture, forming lasting friendships, and deepening their appreciation for the places they visited.

Charles will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

All are welcome to attend a memorial service at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 114 George Street, Providence, RI on Saturday the 15th of August 2026, at 10 o’clock AM. In lieu of flowers, donations to the James William Calverley III Special Needs Trust via Rockland Trust, 1400 Fall River Ave, Seekonk, MA 02771 are greatly appreciated.
