Rehoboth Public Safety Day

Posted

The annual Public Safety Day event was held on Saturday, September 19th at Redway Plain. Members of the Rehoboth Police and Fire departments were in attendance, along with personnel from Rehoboth Ambulance.

The Department of Public Works and National Grid put their trucks on display.

There were special demonstrations, including a motor vehicle extrication performed by the Fire Department.

“On every scene, the fire department has multiple steps we got to take,” explained Deputy Chief Dustin Carey. “You have a person in charge, you’ve got a person in charge of safety of our guys, and then you’ve got the firefighters who are going to do the job. The process has a lot to contend with. We have a lot of electric vehicles on the road. There’s electrical wires, high voltage ran all through the car that we have to avoid.”

Carey noted the department has an extrication training session for cars each month.

“We try getting different makes, different models. No two motor vehicle accidents are the same. Impact is different, the way (the victims) react is different.”

The accident victims are transported by ambulance to various hospitals depending on the extent of their injuries, Carey added.
