Rehoboth’s 2026 Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony went on as planned despite other surrounding communities canceling their events due to inclement weather. The Director of Veteran Services was only going to cancel the parade if lightning was in the area, otherwise the Veterans office held true to its promise and postings, proceeding onward rain or shine. Although the rain held off until around 9:45 AM, unfortunately the attendees and participants got little rain during the parade but only a little drizzle during the Ceremony for honoring those who paid the Ultimate Sacrifice and concluding with the raising of the American Flag to full staff.
Residents gathered along the 1.1 mile parade route, as a long line of marchers and apparatus made their journey through the Old Rehoboth Village on Bay State Road and towards the Veterans Memorial. Members of the Rehoboth Color Guard, American Legion Post 302, Antique vehicles from Bristol County Savings Bank and the Rehoboth Lions, Rehoboth police department, Dighton-Rehoboth Marching Band, Rehoboth Board of Selectman including Skip Vadnais who just had a knee replacement, Rehoboth Fire Department, Boy Scouts Troop 13, Cub Pack 1, Aura Kick boxing, Girl Scout troops, local dancers, & witches, Wreaths Across America, 4H Club with Anawan Farms trailer, other clubs, antique tractors, antique fire trucks, RDL Equipment, B & R Fournier Construction Inc, Todd & Ozzy and other local business and bring up the rear was our Rehoboth Ambulances.
While businesses and organizations handed out or tossed candy to the children and waving along the parade route, with the music in the air despite the rain and dancers smiling, Rehoboth had attendees huddled under pop-up tents while others opted for umbrellas and raincoats. The hardest few stood without shelter as the rain fluctuated from light rainfall to moderate rainfall. The harmless sacrifice to their comfort, in relation to the meaning of Memorial Day, honoring those who paid the Ultimate Sacrifice for our Freedom.
