Holiday Food Drive and Tree Lighting

Raffle Benefiting Doorways Food Pantry

Posted

In celebration of Doorways Food Pantry’s 25th anniversary and the spirit of giving this holiday season, the Town of Seekonk is inviting residents, especially our younger residents and students, to participate in a special holiday food drive.

From now through November 24, 2026, residents are encouraged to donate nonperishable food items to support Doorways Food Pantry and its work serving members of our community. As a special thank-you for participating, donors will receive one raffle ticket for every food item donated, giving them a chance to win a memorable holiday experience: the opportunity to light the Town of Seekonk’s holiday tree!

The raffle winner will be announced on November 30, and the selected winner will have the honor of helping light the tree during the Town’s Annual Holiday Tree Lighting on Saturday, December 5, at 6:00 p.m. at Seekonk Town Hall.

The Town particularly encourages students and younger residents to participate. This initiative offers families an opportunity to teach children about generosity, gratitude, and the importance of helping neighbors while giving one lucky participant a special role in a cherished Seekonk holiday tradition.

How to Participate:
Food donations may be dropped off at Seekonk Town Hall, located at 100 Peck Street, Seekonk, MA. Donors must stop by the Town Administrator’s Office to receive their raffle tickets. One raffle ticket will be issued for each food item donated.

Town Hall hours are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; and Wednesday, 8:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Town Hall is closed Friday through Sunday.

Doorways Food Pantry’s Most-Needed Items
The pantry has identified the following items as particularly helpful:
• Canned baked beans
• Canned beef stew
• Progresso canned beef soups and chowders
• Canned fruit, including fruit cocktail, peaches, pears, and pineapple
• Cereal and oatmeal
• Chef Boyardee spaghetti and meatballs or ravioli
• Rice-A-Roni products
• Spaghetti sauce in plastic containers
• Pancake mix
• Baking mixes, including cake, muffin, cookie, bread, and cupcake mixes
• Canned potatoes and beets
• Snacks, including crackers, cookies, Jell-O, nuts, chips, and granola bars
• Smaller items, including cans measuring four ounces or less, are also welcome to help meet the needs of senior residents.

The Town of Seekonk invites the entire community to join in this effort. Every donation makes a difference, and every item brings participants one step closer to the chance to help illuminate the holiday season at this year’s tree lighting.

Together, we can celebrate 25 years of Doorways Food Pantry’s service while sharing the true spirit of the season: giving back to our neighbors and caring for our community.”
