The woods, fields, wetlands, and quiet roads that make Rehoboth feel like home are disappearing. Since 2011, our town has lost more than 20% of its natural land. Local assessment records show that 1,300 acres of undeveloped land in the past 15 years is now gone.
That change affects us all: critical water resources dwindle, wildlife loses habitat, and scenic views and trails vanish. But you are helping make a difference.
Because of supporters like you, Rehoboth Land Trust permanently protected more than 50 acres this year. We are especially grateful to announce Polly Carpenter’s donation of the 37-acre Carpenter Family Conservation Area. This property adjoins our Ephraim Hunt Ministerial Land and includes a portion of the historic trolley line. You are welcome to explore this beautiful trail.
These victories matter because opportunities to save our precious open spaces are running out. This year, RLT tried to preserve more than 200 acres with high conservation value off Route 44 for the town but couldn’t meet the requested purchase price. A subdivision is now in the preliminary stages for this watershed and wildlife habitat. Additional development is also planned on Agricultural Avenue. These two construction projects could bring up to 200 new homes, straining our vulnerable natural resources.
The need is urgent, but with your help, RLT will be there to respond when landowners like you are ready to protect their land.
Please make a year-end gift to Rehoboth Land Trust today. Your support will help RLT work with landowners, pursue important conservation opportunities, care for protected properties and trails, and preserve our town’s natural legacy.
You can also help by speaking with us about a Conservation Restriction or donation of land, or by encouraging neighbors to consider preserving their property. Every acre protected preserves wildlife, clean water, scenic beauty, recreation, and the future of our community. Thank you for protecting the places that make Rehoboth special.
Rehoboth Land Trust, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization run entirely by dedicated volunteers and funded by donations. We are not a town committee.
